8. Capt. Levin J. Lank, son of Thomas Barr Lank and Comfort Scudder, was born on Oct 25, 1789 in Sussex Co., DE, died on Nov 16, 1875 at age 86, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.

General Notes: 7 Nov. 1850 Census for 11th Subdiv, Sussex Cnty, DE: Household includes Levin, 62, ship carpenter with real estate valued at $1000; wife Ann, 38; dtr Elizabeth, 15; dtr Margaret, 12; son Levin, 10; dtr Catharine, 7; son Robert, 4; son Urias E., 24, who was married within the year (1850). All were b. DE. Next interviewed were Robert Coulborn, 77, ship carpenter, and Priscilla, 79.
6 June 1860 Census for Broad Creek Hd., Sussex Cnty, DE: Household includes Levin Lank, 69, farmer; Annie, 47; Margaret A., 20; Levin J., 19; Catharine J., 15; Robt. R., 12; Sabra M., 8. Value of real estate is $5000. All b. DE.
1870 Census describes Levin Lank, 80, as a ship "carpender." Value of his personal estate is $5750 and real estate as $11,600. Also living in the household are wife Ann, 60, son Robert, 22, with his wife, Julia, 20, and their son William, age 1/12 and born in May. Annie Holt, 18, is the white domestic servant (cannot read or write).
Capt. Lank's will was witnessed by Henry White Baker, bank president of the town's First National Bank, created in Feb. 1865 with capital stock of $55,000. It was located on the corner of High and Cannon Streets.
From "Delaware - Past and Present" ( Published by Lewis Historical Publishing Co.,Inc., 1929): "Thomas Lank's son, Levin, spent his life on the farm in Broad Creek Hundred, where he was a large landowner and a builder of ships, and lived to the age of eighty-four years."

Research Notes: Per National Archives & Public Records Admin., no record of Levin Lank in US Customs Svc. Index to Masters of Vessels Entering Various Ports, 1820-1870; nor Indexes to Abstracts of Seamen's Protection Certificates, Various Ports, 1797-1875, nor to Index to SPCs, 1792-1861. Title of 'Capt.' was often bestowed upon master shipbuilders as well as small boat owners delivering local goods or seafood (oysters, clams, crabs, rockfish) on the Nanticoke River and Chesapeake Bay to Baltimore.

Levin married Eleanor in 1823. Eleanor was born on an unknown date and died in 1830. The cause of her death was complications from childbirth.

         ii.  Capt. Urias Elzey/Elizer Lank was born on Apr 20, 1827, died on Dec 27, 1879 at age 52, and was buried in Seaford Odd Fellows Cmtry. The cause of his death was drowning.

        iii.  Hester Ann Comfort Lank was born on Jan 10, 1830 and died before 1871.

Levin next married Ann Coulborn on Sep 20, 1832 in Sussex Co., DE. Ann was born on Jan 22, 1812 in Delaware, died on May 19, 1891 at age 79, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.

Children from this marriage were:

          i.  Elizabeth Eleanor Lank was born on Jul 21, 1836, died on Jan 15, 1894 at age 57, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.

         ii.  Margarite Ann Lank was born on Nov 3, 1838 in Broad Creek Hundred, Sussex County, DE, died on Oct 17, 1868 at age 29, and was buried in Nr Mt. Zion Church, W. of Rt. 13.

        iii.  Levin John Lank was born on Dec 12, 1840 and died on Dec 25, 1879 at age 39. The cause of his death was drowning.

         iv.  "Kate" Catharine Jane Lank was born on Jul 10, 1844, died on Apr 15, 1915 at age 70, and was buried in Bethel ME Church Cemetery, Bethel, Sussex, DE.

          v.  Sabra Martin Lank was born on May 4, 1845, died on Jun 28, 1913 at age 68, and was buried in Seaford Odd Fellows Cmtry.

9. Ann Coulborn, daughter of Robert Coulbourn and Priscilla Bestpitch, was born on Jan 22, 1812 in Delaware, died on May 19, 1891 at age 79, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.

General Notes: Ann's maternal grandfather, Levin Bestpitch, served as a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. The Coulborn family line traces back to Col. William Coulborn in the 1600s Somerset County and also back to William Coulborn, born 1578 in Braton, Somersetshire, England. Ann raised 9 children. / Levin Lank's will directed payment to his beloved wife Ann $300 annually for her maintenance and support. All household furniture bequeathed to her for use during her lifetime. After that, son Robert gets his choice of one bed and bed clothing, with remainder of furniture to be auctioned. Levin also bequeathed to Ann his horse and carriage, and after her death to son Levin. No will found for Ann.

Research Notes: Ann's last name was spelled "Coulborn" in the marriage records in DE Public Archives.

Ann married Capt. Levin J. Lank on Sep 20, 1832 in Sussex Co., DE. Levin was born on Oct 25, 1789 in Sussex Co., DE, died on Nov 16, 1875 at age 86, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.


10. William Graham, son of Phillip Graham and Elizabeth Betsie Knowles, was born on Apr 11, 1822, died on May 4, 1905 at age 83, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.

General Notes: There is no census proof that William was son of Philip and in his household, but his birth date fits within the range of children's birth dates, and his home was next to or close to the other Graham households. This picture is of William and wife, Sally. A note was attached, saying "Wm & Sally Graham died 1905 and 1901 (aged 88 & 71)". A picture of Phillip and wife was also a part of this collection from Julia Graham Lank, via Lizzie Lank.

Page 2 and in same household are John E. Phillip, 3; Auther, 6/12, male; Elmiah, 7, fem.--are these Phillips related to the Grahams? This census indicates William was born in MD, while dtr Julia Graham Lank indicates in 1880 census that both parents were born in DE. Amanda, 4, and Willie, 1, appear in household of William Morgan, 54, farmer, and Sarah A. Morgan, 49, along with their son Harvey, 29. Census visit was 4 households after Phillip Graham, 77, and on same page.

9 Jun 1900 Census for Seaford Town, Seaford Hd, Sussex, DE: William Graham, 75, farmer, b. Sep. 1824 in MD, as were both parents; Sallie, 69, b. Jul. 1831 in DE as were both parents; Phillip, 31, son, b. Sep.1868, single, day laborer; Willie, 28, dtr, b. Aug. 1871. Is this the same William and Sallie? This census-taker indicates Sallie bore only 2 children, 2 living.

William married Sally J. on Aug 16, 1849 in Sussex Co, DE. Sally was born on Feb 28, 1831, died on Jul 17, 1901 at age 70, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.

11. Sally J. daughter of Unknown, was born on Feb 28, 1831, died on Jul 17, 1901 at age 70, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.

Sally married William Graham on Aug 16, 1849 in Sussex Co, DE. William was born on Apr 11, 1822, died on May 4, 1905 at age 83, and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.

12. Jacob Hayman, son of Levin Hayman and Martha (Patty) Walston, was born on Nov 1, 1806 and died before 1882.

Jacob married Mary Melson. Mary was born in 1806.

13. Mary Melson, daughter of Samuel Melson and Grace Maddox, was born in 1806.

General Notes: Lizzie Lank notes: "Grandmother Hayman was the daughter of Samuel Melson a local Dr. and Preacher. Their old home was later the Bill Scofield Parker home. Their burying ground was on the farm. Grandfather Jacob Hayman was buried there" as were "their 2 sons Samuel & Levin one daughter Eliza also Samuel Melsons family. She had ten children Sallie Hearn Sharp Daniel" [sic].

Mary married Jacob Hayman. Jacob was born on Nov 1, 1806 and died before 1882.

14. Isaac Henry Parsons, son of William Hafford Parsons and Mary Briddel, was born on Apr 30, 1819 in Farm between Pittsville and Parsonsburg., died on Jun 17, 1899 at age 80, and was buried in Jerusalem Methodist Church Cemetery, Parsonsburg, Wicomico County, Maryland.

General Notes: According to local lore, Parsonsburg, MD, was named after Isaac Parsons.
Patented `Parsons Luck' in 1846 for 52.5 acres, Worcester Co., Maryland.
Patented `Addition to Readen' in 1853 for 7 acres, (now) Wicomico Co., MD.
Patented `Palestine' in 1867 for 2 acres, 3 perches, 9 rods, Worcester Co., Maryland.
In the 1850 census, Isaac is listed with his family living in Household 133 in the 4th district of Worcester Co., Maryland. 1850 Worcester County Census Transcription by Ruth Dryden.

Isaac married "Kate" Katherine Truitt in 1840 in Johnson's Fork, Worcester, MD. "Kate" was born on Jun 2, 1809 in Worcester Co, MD, died on Aug 21, 1871 in Parsonsburg (then Johnsons Forks) at age 62, and was buried in Jerusalem Methodist Church Cemetery, Parsonsburg, Wicomico County, Maryland.

Children from this marriage were:

          i.  Clarissa Parsons was born in 1836 in Worcester Co, MD.

         ii.  George W. Parsons was born in 1842, died in 1923 at age 81, and was buried in Parsonsburg Methodist Church Cemetery.

        iii.  Daniel J. Parsons was born on Sep 1, 1843, died on Dec 20, 1917 at age 74, and was buried in Parsonsburg Methodist Church Cemetery.

         iv.  Samuel Peter Parsons was born on Aug 14, 1845, died on Oct 9, 1915 at age 70, and was buried in Parsonsburg Methodist Church Cemetery.

7         v.  Elizabeth Mary Hester Parsons (born on Nov 28, 1847 in Derrickson's Crossroads, Worcester County, Maryland - died on Jan 16, 1941, buried in Parsonsburg Methodist Church Cemetery)

         vi.  Rebecca Catherine Parsons was born in 1850 and died in 1927 at age 77.

        vii.  Isaac Washington Parsons was born on May 9, 1856 and died on Aug 17, 1940 at age 84.

Isaac next married Laura Ann Collins, daughter of Joseph R. Collins and Jane Parker, on Sep 30, 1872 in Parsonsburg Methodist Church. Laura was born on Jan 20, 1839, died on Jun 17, 1916 at age 77, and was buried in Parsonsburg Methodist Church Cemetery.

The child from this marriage was:

          i.  Gertrude May Parsons was born on Aug 1, 1873, died on Oct 12, 1953 at age 80, and was buried in Salisbury, Wicomico County, MD.
