1850 Census: Household includes Levin, 62, ship carpenter with real estate valued at $1000; wife Ann, 38; dtr Elizabeth, 15; dtr Margaret, 12; son Levin, 10; dtr Catharine, 7; son Robert, 4; son Urias E., 24, who was married within the year (1850).
Per National Archives & Public Records Admin., no record of Levin Lank in US Customs Svc. Index to Masters of Vessels Entering Various Ports, 1820-1870; nor Indexes to Abstracts of Seamen's Protection Certificates, Various Ports, 1797-1875, nor to Index to SPCs, 1792-1861. Title of 'Capt.' was often bestowed upon master shipbuilders as well as small boat owners delivering local goods or seafood (oysters, clams, crabs, rockfish) on the Nanticoke River and Chesapeake Bay to Baltimore. Levin married Eleanor in 1823. (Eleanor was born on an unknown date and died in 1830.) The cause of her death was complications from childbirth. Levin next married Ann Coulborn, daughter of Robert B. Coulborn and Priscilla Bestpitch, on 20 Sep 1832 in Sussex Co., DE. (Ann Coulborn was born on 22 Jan 1812, died on 19 May 1891 and was buried in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE.) |
