He attended night school and graduated from the Goldey-Beacom Business College. Still working days, he attended night classes and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business and received his graduation certificate.

William married Mildred Elizabeth Lank, daughter of Robert Elwood Lank and "Mollie" Mary Catherine Hayman, on 17 Mar 1934 in Mt. Olivet M. P. Church, Seaford, Sussex Co., DE, by Rev. G. J. Hooker. Witness: Julia Elizabeth Lank. Reception held at Albert & Lizzie Lank's.
